I wonder if anyone would care to guess or is the know whether this suction nozzle (Hydro Force) is legal or not for dredging a bench that is more than 10 metres away from any natural waterway in BC..

everyone should be very concerned about this one ....
gov. says there not talking park , BUT i think it's a park ($4!+) with a different label...
this is another layer of rules , and not much talk from cgma board....
there's a thread in the political issues area further down....
everyone had better read it and post your thoughts!!!!!!
or areas we work today , will not be available soon...
the gov. says "it's not suppose to affect mining"...

Mountain Caribou Legislation

I have not seen any mention, yet, on this forum about the Mountain Caribou Issue. Seeing that my hardrock and placer claims around Yank's Peak, Barkerville and Horsefly areas are adversely affected by this additional heavy layer of red tape, I thought that members of this forum might also be interested in the subject. Below, is an exerpt from the AMEBC web-site. The regulation seeks to ban road-building and timber harvesting. The impact this will have on miners, goes without saying....

Here is my story.Day 1- claim beside me was forfeited at midnight.Day 2 -I tried to acquire claim but could not as grid system was down on MTO.I emailed MTO as to my intentions and got a reply,and I also phoned the front desk to manually buy claim but was told it was not possible.I tried to buy claim on Day 3 on computor but the system was still down at 9:am.I came back at 1:pm and tried to buy claim only to find that it was already taken....x;'--=x/$^(/. Anyway the new owner is the same...

1000 meters per cell compared to the 2000 m legacy claims

Since the change of the new cell system we now can only process 1000 meters per cell. Before with the legacy claims we were able to process 2000 meters per claim. With the new system I have to move my wash plant to a new cell half way through the season. To me this is counter productive. With the legacy claims I didn't have to move. Not knowing this at the time I switched over to the new system and now even though its the same area I can only process half the paydirt. I have alot to say...

we need closed placer staking areas opened up ...
areas like the horsefly ....
this area have been closed to placer mining for many years ....
they allow hard rock mining , drilling is going on all over out that way ....
but not placer , no placer staking allowed ...
so with the logging slowed down , maybe the government would look at opening up horsefly...
and other areas ....
more people are looking for new areas to mine ...
likely area was flooded...

When Placer miners wish to lobby for change in the regulations affecting them, they must first understand that it is not just provincial regulations that are the greatest hurdle. Other more onerous political layers are involved.

The federal government creates a much more difficult process to deal with involving the department of fisheries and oceans. The DFO is nearly omnipotent and trumps any provincial regulations in most cases, thus the BC government often can not
change...

How about a petition that everyone signs to allow small scale dredging? I'm no lawyer or politician so maybe we can get a member or an avid reader of the forums to make one up....
I certainly would sign it....from all that ive read about small scale dredging.....it has little or no impact on the eco- system in our river waters except an impact for the good, actually i would like to see the report...
