This is a great movie. The first time I watched it I was amazed and called Bob Swerver right away and ordered a few copies for myself and Christmas presents. I made a note of his other two movies, thanks Rolln, and will order them next time I do an Amazon order.

I have seen it several times and thoroughly enjoyed it! That man was a "one of a kind".
Another great book from years back is ....The Silence of the North..... by Olive Fredrickson, a hell of a good read about a woman alone in the wilderness with her children while her husband chases gold and rainbows.

Love that man, Watched the PBS special, got the book as a gift and we since have bought all three DVD's. Dick is truly an inspiration to us all. I wish there was more footage of his gold explorations.

Dick Proennke was an amazing man, Diesel mechanic, woodworker, woodsman, and wouldn't you know it but he was a prospector as well. There are also two other movies i know of that were dedicated to his life. "Alaska, Silence and Solitude" and " Frozen North", i highly reccomend watching both if you can find them. Hey Chris it's one of the best outdoor show's on the t.v.
Better than they put out these days for sure .
Like Darcy said every time it's on thats what we are watching like it or not!!
Then after I get the evil eye and maker her dinner she lets me watch it.

Had the pleasure of watching ALONE IN THE WILDERNESS last night,the Dick Proennke story what an amazing man,this guy could turn @!!% into shinola!
