Thanks for the info Ernie. I hadn't thought of the tarp motor and may have to look at that next time i am by princess auto, should have plenty of torque. I
will definately be bringing it out to the Quesnell forks camp out this year and hope to get it out a couple times before that on my little creek..... if this
damned snow ever melts up there. :P Thanks for the info on the turbine drives dave, that is pretty much what i am looking for if i can figure a way to make it
all fit in the limited space i have. I'll try to get some pic's up before the weekend is done.

I musta missed these pics earlier. Nice improvements Ernie. That new hopper and spray bar should handle more material than the old style, looks good. I am
having a wierd problem with my camera and new computer not synching up properly and still have not got any pics to upload. Like so many things now-a-days newer
isn't necessarily better.

I see all kinds of neat ideas there Ernie! What breed of plastic sluice is that? LeTrap pattern?
Wish i had been a fly on the wall when you fabricated that! I only do "farmer fixes" and cobble things up and when i see you guys designing and building this stuff i am always impressed! Wayne |

Thanks Guy's I have really enjoyed building this rig,
and with the new upgrades, I hope it catches all the Au that goes through it. Wayne the sluice is a Angus Mackirk .I'm experimenting with it this year, and if it works out I hope to pickup a longer version for next year. Ernie |

Newbie Builds Trommel for 2010 Tulameen/Last Chance Mining Adventures | ||
|
Okay here goes nothing..
Other than seeing youtube videos and pictures of of trommels, I have never seen one or seen one in actual operation but I know I want one. Soooooo.... In order to start off next years adventures early along with building a highbanker I decided to build my own trommel as my winter projects in anticipation of finding some AU next year... Oh yes.. I haven't welded in over twenty years and I didn't want to re-wire my house for 220 service so I bought me a little 110 mig welder at Princess Auto. Works great on 1 and a 1/4 x 1/8 tubing So here goes the first build.. Constructive opinions appreciated
My first weld after almost 25 years
Top deck that will hold the 4' x 18" trommel.
Chamber will have 3/4 inch angle iron bolted into the first 16 inches followed by 3 inches of flat space and then the next 10" will have 1/4 inch slots followed by a 3 inch flat spot, followed buy 10" of 1/2 slots followed by a 6 flat spot at the tail end. The trommel will have three 4'x12" sluices coming out of it (two out of the sides and one out of the end) to accommodate material that is less than 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch and 1" in diameter Here it is with the wheels on:
Fully adjustable legs..
With the wheels off...
And it looks like it sits pretty level
I'm thinking I may conjure up a different axle setup so one can add and remove the wheels quicker and easier... My next step is to build the front legs in order to accommodate a trailer jack so it would be easier to create the front to rear angle for the trommel on uneven ground.. Stay tuned for more Cheers Ed ps.. I'm building this puppy with no plans.. Just a vision of
what I think may work

Trommel build | ||
|
OK.. The way I had the rear axle assembly configured last week was driving me crazy cus it was a real pain to lift the back end of the trommel off the ground
in order to take the weight off the axle so one could slide it out and let the trommel rest on the ground and make use of it's adjustable legs.
Sooooo???... I created a separate axle which attaches to the fixed and adjustable legs with 4 bolts. Undo the four bolts, lift up on the trommel and the axle falls away so you can drop it down on it's adjustable legs..
Now I'm happy and can move on with the rest of the build

Nice work Ed, looks very well built so far. I think we have something in common, i also work best with a hot timmy's close at hand.

Hi Rolln..
Along with all these great ideas that I keep coming up with comes a "weight" issue.. Looks like I just may have to build another axle with a doolie wheel set up as this beast is going to have a basket shelf running across the bottom to hold the generator, pump, small toolbox and hoses that will be required to run it.. Puppy is getting heavy but I will be able to use this one for the
High Banker I want to build as it will be a little lighter.. Cheers..

Just a note, as she gets heavy you might have to use the nicer wheel ya have in the back ground. i bought a 12 volt motor to turn my panning machine and it is
pretty strong it runs very well with a 35-45 watt panel will have to double check on those number since it is put away for the winter. the panel were on sale @
wally world. unfortunately it won't run the small pump and think that if can find small pump that the [panel should do both.

Hi Sniper.. I'm saving those tires (in the background) for the little quad dump trailer I'm going to build
They have an 800 lb rating so I should be OK.. Don't know what rating those wheelbarrow tires have that are on the beast, but I should be pretty safe with doolies |

better! have trommel fit inside quad trailer! trailer should handle all of your toys for the trommel.
