well, as the
age old story goes.... you can't beat it but, you can defiatly join it!
possing atop a deep valley gettin ready for some ice snipin is a good friend derrek to the right and myself to the left. as we all traditionaly look
at mining for gold as a summer, spring, and fall event, we often overlook one of the best times avalible. winter.while the water rushes through the vallys in
the spring coming to a gradual flow of the summer and slightly reducing in the fall, the winter months offer something that no miner will ever get to
experiance in many creeks... low water. i've seen gold pockets that were directly behind giant boulders or drop offs, where water is too fast, too deep, to
be worked in regular season. the water level in one of my favorite rivers drops about 3-4' alowing you to virtually go where no one has before!
this pic was
at the oh so infamous wildhorse river....taking a break in the sun. usually (for me) sniping in the winter requires a break every half an hour or so, but if
breaking properly you can stay in for several hrs.
this is our
camp to the west of salmo-creston pass, believe it or not....may long weekend! there was about 2-3' of snow. when i left home(sparwood, b.c.) the grass was
green and the birds a churping.
just food for
thought.... if you can gain access in the winter... some, now shallow spots, may prove to be worth a chill.
