I have a Letrap sluice in storage at Nome ak. I'm planning on using it as a hibanker in place of a beach box. Any ideas on a hopper? I thought to just build a regular wood sluice and hopper and use the Letrap as an insert. But maybe a stand alone or separate hopper would be better, lighter anyway. The hopper sold at Rich's Locator Service seems to be a bit small, has anybody used one of these? thanks have a good season.

Have a look at the general descution under dredge riffels on a highbanker thread . There are some pic's of a LeTrap with a hopper on it it might help you out .If not just keep an eye out here cause some one will help you out soon great people here and lots of good ideas. Everywhere you go you just keep bumping into folks you know. Grizz, Here's a start spot for you. I will say that I have never had even close to the migration problems mentioned here. http://prospecting.atspace.com/LeTrap-folding-highbanker.html ***A few of the things I would have done differently:*** The expanded metal in the original hopper should have been long axis up/down. Cut the hopper hole larger - all but about 1 inch along each edge all the way around being removed. Expanded should have covered entire top of the floor of the hopper and been supported by larger expanded metal - mounted under the hopper floor. Permanent Bolt, washers and Nut used to sandwich both expanded to the open hole in the plywood floor. If necessary, reinforce underneath with small angle iron or square tubing. I don't think the pitch is quite right in the experiments (I use 1:12+-, and then fine tune so that a 3/4+ inch roundish pebble rolls through the sluice in 6-8 seconds). Fine tuning takes into account the water flow and volume. Other than that it is a pretty neat setup. Joe

The idea of cutting the PVC with a hacksaw for the spray bar is much better than drilling, more coverage and a better wash. I can't believe you havent worn it out yet Wayne

I can't believe you havent worn it out yet Wayne A couple of mistakes in that the spay pipe should be able to be opened at the ends cause they do plug but not as much as the holes do and the hopper tilt hookup needs some refinement. When I do wear it out I'll fix them. Everything would be an easy fix. It take a lot of abuse...just like a timex watch...takes a licking but keeps on ticking. Marvin

Another question, is the hopper slope adjustable independant from the Letrap slope? Hmmmmm, that doesn't make too much sense, I'll rephrase it, once you've set up you're Letrap angle to your satisfaction do you then have the ability to adjust the slope on the hopper so that the material will slide off the grizzly just right? By the way, nice idea on the BBQ grill, I'm getting hungry just looking at it. ron

Another thought that I've actually never done but I wouldn't mind knowing what you guys know about it is what do you think of a closed loop plumbing setup, I've heard that in the new houses they complete the piping so that all pipes have a more even distribution of water preassure throughout the entire system. So if for example (in your next version) you were to connect those two pipe ends together with a final pipe then in theory the preasure(and spray) would be more uniform around the whole box. Thoughts ? waste of pipe? ron

Posts: 205 (03/18/08 08:06:04) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Ron look at pic 1; the hopper is hinged at the front and the wingnut you can see at the bottom (one on each side) allows for setting the hopper slope to what you require. As far as the water flow, the system builds up a good pressure so it's equal on each side and the spray is equalized. If I turn up the honda then the water will spray all over the place so I run it at half throdle or so. Pump power is more than required but if you have a bigger lift then the power is required. I use a Scotts Speedy 1000 lawn spreader hopper. I will try to post some pics of my setup and the precision cut spray bars I made. I use the handle to pull my sluice with and the wheels also. I made some easy adjustible rear legs also. This setup will accommadate a grizzly grille or just a nice flat rectangle platter to run fine concentrates. Chuck
