Dick Proennke was an amazing man, Diesel mechanic, woodworker, woodsman, and wouldn't you know it but he was a prospector as well. There are also two other movies i know of that were dedicated to his life. "Alaska, Silence and Solitude" and " Frozen North", i highly reccomend watching both if you can find them. Both are great with lots of beautiful footage and of course tell of his very remarkable life. One is mainly self narrated and although much of it is hard to understand it really gives a good glimpse into his personality.

My favorite part out of all his videos is near the end of one (cant remember which) when a massive spring rain and runoff erode a portion of the river near him and he spends a few days panning along its shores. There is one shot of him walking away with a sizable poke that i could only hope to pan out in my entire lifetime let alone a few days. Well.....That does it....im gonna have to dig into my video stash and watch that part again, it's got my blood pumping just thinking about it.
