Sure its gold talk. Finding something in your pan or sluice other than gold can be quite exiting. last summer a fellow I was with showed me a small glass vile
he dug out of the bank just below our camp. I laughed and told him it was a signal light lever from a 65 pontiac. It turned out to be a chinese opium vial. The
area we prospect had been extensivly mined by the chinese way back when. I have turned up square nails in the sluice, I have a few keepers, most are rusted
badly but are quite recognizable. This summer my partner found an old rusty pan. I thought it might be something, took it home and googled the markings on the
bottom. It was a dinner plate made by a company in Ontario in the early 40's. I wonder who packed those square nails in, where did the Chinese get the
opium and how far did they travel on foot. Where did they live? Maybe in the cabin built with square nails? Many things to ponder when sitting around the fire
in the evening.

Yup, close enough to gold talk for me too. I found an arrowhead along the bow river a couple years ago while fishing. It was muddy after a recent rain when i
slipped while hiking out. As i lay in the muck i saw the point sitting up on a pedestal of mud like a hoodoo, musta washed out that way from the recent rain.
While my next finds aren't quite artifacts in the traditional sense I still enjoyed pulling them out of the highbanker hopper.
Last weekend i was up to the North Saskatchewan river in Devon and wasnt having the best start to the trip after almost getting stuck coming in due to the rain that morning and after getting my new homemade highbanker hopper all set up i watched it all collapse after i turned the water on with the valve closed. The hose straightened out and broke the pvc legs right off the bottom.
C'est la vie. I ended up with a workable red green fix with some aluminum muffler repair material and of course lots of duct tape. After the rough
start the rest of the day went well and i was able to dig a fair amount of gravel. Almost half way through i went to throw away a piece of driftwood that was
laying in the hopper and realized it was a lot heavier than regular wood, it was petrified. I tried to slice a bit off the bigger piece but only left a grey
streak and a dull spot on my knife. I found 5 pieces in total but the cat already absconded with one of the smaller chunks. Here are a few pics of the four i
have left. (darned cat )
The last pics show my favorite piece of the group. It appears to have some amber maybe or some other neat mineralization on it, any ideas what it is? I found a fair amout of gold in the layer that held the old wood too and all in all it turned out to be a pretty good day. Rolln |

Nice work! Those are some pretty cool pieces. Already I can't wait for next season. Unless something drastic happens I will be able to really dig the dirt
next summer. I still need to pick up or aclaim or two that has some potential and might even invest in some heavier gear.
Any pickers out of that gold layer? |

I find mine on beaches in B.C. Mostly while camping. They are pretty easy to spot once you know what to look for. Also the individual beach is very important.
I have one spot that has had 100% returns every time I go. It's a fun treasure hunt. that's some nice "wood". Another thing to look for while
out and about. I also have to get a little more up to date on Agots.

If you find any 'artifacts', keep your lips zipped. Anything of archeological significance found, were it to become common knowledge, has the potential
of getting you shut down. ..Willy.
